In the universe where you and I live a meteorite, called the Wold Cottage meteorite, fell near Wold Newton, Yorkshire, England, on December 13, 1795. Nothing out of the ordinary resulted.
In THIS universe, however, this meteorite—due to its ionization—caused genetic mutations in the local animals (both wild and domesticated). Many of the livestock’s offspring were thus endowed with extremely high intelligence and strength, as well as an exceptional capacity and drive to perform good or, as the case may be, evil deeds.
Much of this world’s history centers around that group of animals present at the falling of this meteorite. The progenies of these animals are purported to have been inspired by the real-life originals of fictionalized characters, both heroic and villainous, over the last few hundred years.
Other meteors have fallen across the planet over the centuries creating others like them—eventually creating a hidden society of intelligent animals. Many seek to destroy humans for the centuries of abuse and for using them as food sources. On the other side, there are those who wish to tell the humans the truth of their intelligence and live in harmony with them.
There are other characters that are not necessarily blood relatives, descendants, or ancestors of the group in the meteor strike, but these characters somehow have become self-aware and no one knows how.
The truth of the matter is that for some time there have been animals planted there from an alternate reality where no humans and animals coexist. They have been observing this reality to see whether the animals here are ready to join them and their world.
Lastly, the humans of this world are completely unaware of the animals’ abilities and intellect. However, there are certain humans (such as Vegans) that sense something is going on but can’t seem to put it in words.
This is the world of Animals Amok. You’ll never ever look at fried chicken the same.
