This universe/story is not going to be about the obvious shiny surface of an Earth with superheroes. Go a little deeper, and you find strangeness and wonder on a planetary scale. There are people weirder and more marvelous who simply do not care if the world sees them as heroes, villains, racists, gods, dictators or fascists. The only thing that matters is world peace, order and freedom. What if every country had their own idea of what a hero constitutes?
Though SOVEREIGN will doubtless have its grim moments, and will certainly often have an atmosphere of mystery, it’s about, “mad and beautiful ideas”; the sense of wonder, the feeling of marvelous secret things just beyond our field of vision, and the revelations and splendors and dangers and bastards tied up in it all…
The book revolves around the now awakening memories of Francis-Xavier Mathieus and the rest of his team known as SOVEREIGN, but especially Mathieus. He is beginning to realize what he has created in his name and what it has become in the name of defense for Earth. He has assembled former team members of his choosing and others who are not, to correct everything his enemy, known as Bedlam has both done and taken from them and all the others before and after. This is the story of their search, and its terrible conclusion.
SOVEREIGN is about eight people who walk Canada, and the world, for justice… and vengeance. In every issue, they (and we) learn and see something new of how they’ve been used and betrayed by the very people they swore to protect and defend, something that evokes a maniacal hatred and obsession to rectify.
They are after everyone and everything that has been acquired through amoral means in their names. Using questionable tactics to some degree, which even now, has their very enemies questioning just how similar they have become in method?
It’s not just what they don’t know that will kill them. What they do know will destroy them. Governments will force ex-communication to protect their secrets. For every member that has fallen, for every member that may, Francis-Xavier Mathieus will take as many governments with him in his own downfall.
His team will follow him. All those who knew him in the past, see once again the fire burn again in the eyes of the man they once believed in.. HE is Canada’s SENTINEL!!!
